Fondue Evangelism
Recently I had a wonderful night out with my wife. We went to a fondue restaraunt. I had never been to a fondue restaraunt, so I had no expectations. After we ate our appitizer of bread, apples, and other vegatables dipped in a cheese fondue, we were prepared for the main course. The server told us that we had to cook the meat. I was a bit skeptical at this point. When the food arived it was a tray of RAW meat. We were instructed to put the various meat on the scewer, place it in the boiling chicken broth like liquid and leave it for about 2 minutes. Sure enough the meat was full of flavor and we didn’t get sick, so I guess we cooked it?
What does this have to do with Evangelism you ask…As followers of Jesus called to tell the world about His life transforming message, we often choose to force feed people our message. I think we need to be more like my fondue experience. Approach the lost with no expectations or desired results, this may keep us from viewing the process as collecting notches on are spiritual belts. Provide for them the RAW meat of who we are, who are God is, and how who they are interacts with this new information that they are recieving. In the end, they are left with the choice of how they will cook this RAW material. If we believe that our God does bring fulfilling life, then we must trust in the process and know that its no longer in are hands.
Our server new that the Meats would turn out fine once we cooked them and allowed the broth to do its job. We too must trust that God is big enough to complete the work of softening people’s hearts to recieve his full flavors…something like that.
